It all started in 1994. My boyfriend (now husband) asked if I wanted to attend an appointment ... "Makes A who?" An appointment is otherwise known as primitive camping ... Camping / living room, as they have done for our American history / heritage. My husband had rendezvousing in Germany since 1980. He tried the experience of camping with a description of some events that he thought might be of interest to declare myself. First, he described my clothing. I would be wearing a long whiteShirt (what the hell is a shirt? Seems awfully hot!), A floor-length skirt of wool, linen or cotton (sounds really hot! And not particularly my cup of tea), moccasins (now that sounds cool!) O other "reasonable time for the shoes, you know, the series has (hopefully female) with brass buckles on the front (yuk) and other strange clothes of our ancestors is in 1700-1800.
Then he kept telling me that I could throw knives and tomahawks (which sounds like hours of fun!), I couldshooting at a target primitive archery or go kurplunking (what the hell is this?) with his pistol or shotguns ... Oh Yippee! Once I felt comfortable I could participate in many competitive games / sports and show me a great ability ... I've never had a knife or a tomahawk in my life but Okie Dokie thrown ... I like the challenge!
So, I thought, 'what the heck, "I'm an adventurous type and I am proud to try new things at least once. So let's go on an adventure back in time 300 + yearsand live a semblance of American history ... Well, here comes the interesting part. In my head I have several white tents in a campsite on a hectare or two in a strategic position adopted to allow a degree of privacy ... I'm asking too much here? Now I come to find the camping arrangements are anything but private and quiet ... we are talking about thousands of people (depending on the case, often 5,000 people and 2,000 tents). In any case come to the event and take ourCamping ... The nice thing is that our field measurements from only about 60 meters long and 30 meters wide, and many of the other campers had their tents and flies strategically placed to provide privacy when they wish. The design of the tent (the tent, wedge, wall, tepee) also determines your action as private as possible. I had fun, like a giant fly, when it rained, I could still be in flight outside the protected area and listen to the rain meant, read a book or play guitar.
I really didovercome the initial shock of so many people in the camp. In fact, I can learn to seek solitude, if I wanted ... and the other was just like me ... Some were fishing, others played music, sometimes on leather crafts like jewelry making, ceramic work, some hung around the field on horseback, or simply sitting on her bed and read only in books. What really opened and embrace this scene was that everyone else was here for the same reason, away from the stress of a full-time jobnot to interact with grumpy / Moody colleagues and bosses, no cell phones or computers (there should be emulated all aspects of the time ... remember?). Best of all, we were hundreds of miles from our daily work and private life. Depending on the location, we were nestled in the mountains along a river in a state park, or around a lake.
The kitchen is absolutely FUN to these events. So many people with so many recipes. I never thought of cooking in a cast iron panDutch Oven or other piece of cast iron cookware can be so interesting (depending on what you invent, of course!). My husband and I are 150 pounds of molten iron cookware pieces in Dutch oven or two, several large pots, waffle irons and many more. The nice thing is that nobody in a hurry to make the appointment, so if you cook a new recipe, you have every day, be creative, and most of us!
Well,16 years later, I'm still participating in these events and met some wonderful, interesting people on the street. Every new year I look forward to my date and friends who share music, food and fascinating stories of their adventures during the year.
